Stamp Series
When I first started thinking of concepts for an American stamp series the first two things that came to my mind were the lines “Land of the Free” and “Home of the Brave.” The third thing was Native Americans, an underrepresented but large part of American history, and along came these illustrations that I combined with type to create this series.
This tee-pee in an open field, with snow-topped peaks was the first illustration I created with this theme.
The profile of a fierce Native American chief was the second image and was based on a real photograph.
The enlarged moon with the silhouette of the wolf howling was a last minute addition, but it fit right in nonetheless.
For this image, I wanted to incorporate an American animal, and fitting the typeface proved to be a challenge.
